Desktop notifications for Internet Explorer users

Posted in category Tech on February 9th, 2011 at 2:21 PM

We are happy to announce that desktop notifications for new messages on Flow are now available also for Internet Explorer.

Unfortunately, Internet Explorer has its own rules for popups, which by default do not allow these notifications to show unless Internet Explorer window is on the top.

To show new message notifications even when other programs are open, please do the following:
1. On Tools menu, choose Internet Options.

2. Open Security tab. For these modified settings to not affect all websites, choose Trusted sites first, then click Sites and add your Flowr network to the list.

Now click on Custom level button. Scroll down to Miscellaneous category and find option named Allow script-initiated windows without without size or position constraints. Choose Enable under it and click OK.

Due to these security limitations in IE, you will not see notifications if your IE window is minimized or you have another IE tab open.

Flowr desktop notifications are also available for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.

iPhone client for Flowr Google Apps users

Posted in category Tech on October 4th, 2010 at 9:11 AM

While we’re hard at work on new and improved iPhone client, we’ve rolled out a small change that will allow our Flowr networks that use Google Apps to also use iPhone client. Because the way Google Apps work, you’ll have to set yourself a ‘mobile’ password that you will then use with iPhone Client.

To set your mobile password, login to your Flowr network and set the password in ‘Mobile access’ tab. Use your company e-mail as username.

This step is necessary only for Google Apps users.

Updated Flowr User Interface

Posted in category Tech on September 29th, 2010 at 8:14 PM

We have been listening to feedback over the last 3 months since we first launched Flowr. Observing and listening how you use Flowr, we learned what works and what doesn’t. That’s why we’ve prepared a new release of our interface, adding the most requested features and removing features that weren’t used.

What’s new:
  • expanded flow view with more space for text and images
  • better handling of a new messages
  • new header with new people and groups notifications
  • people and  group detail are now moved to sidebar to leave the same view in flow

We will be pushing out new evolved Flowr in following week and are looking forward for your feedback.

Going Beyond Real Time Web

Posted in category Tech on February 22nd, 2010 at 11:08 AM

As Real-Time evolved as the next evolutionary step for the Web, it’s time to start looking into the future. What will the next steps look like, what technologies are emerging and available today and what do we still need to build in order to enable next generation of Web Applications.

Matjaž Lipuš, our CTO,  covered these questions in his technical talk at RealTime WebCamp this past weekend. There are lots of useful tips and bits of experience hidden inside:
